Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy
• Clinical
o Haemorrhagic manifestations
- ICH
- Cortical subarachnoid (?subpial) haemorrhage
- Cortical superficial siderosis
o
Dementia
o Inflammatory amyloid
o Cortical microinfarcts
• Amyloid spells (Transient F Neurological Episodes – TFNEs)
o Transient paraesthesia most common 32%
o ?Seizures vs cortical spreading depression
•
• Bleeding risk (in patients with no prior ICH)
o Charidimou et al Neurology 88, 17 2017
o Cortical superficial siderosis was standout risk factor
- At 5 years – ICH risk if cSS: 19% vs 6%
o Number of microbleeds and age were not independent risk factors
